Ok, a question for the mommies out there
Ok, I saw something the other day that threw me for a loop, so let me ask you mommies out there.
Now understand, I only have one kid. I haven't had the joys of transporting 2 around(yet, soon), so maybe its just me.
Dropping Sarah off at school yesterday, her school is at a church basement rectory. One side is a busy main road, the other 2 are side roads and where you part are houses. The lot is only 20 feet from the door.
Normally you park. Walk the kid in, take off their coats, sign the sign in book, and maybe talk to the teacher.....You know, anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes worth of stuff.....
So as I'm leaving, I overhear the two moms behind me talking.....One says "so hey don't you have a 5 month old? How is he doing?"
"Oh yeah he's great. He's in the car sleeping...He naps every time we come we come to school, so I leave him in the car...." And I look over and the car is running.....Like it is every morning.
So, like I said, I only got one, but tell me ladies, am I wrong thinking this lady is just stupid for leaving her kid in the car running....Every morning that she comes to school?

Around here, people get cited by the police for doing that, if it's in front of a business or other public place.
It's tempting, but I have never done it. We live in a moderate-sized city (250,000) and not for a moment would I leave a sleeping infant in a running vehicle.
Thanks marymurtz...thats pretty much what I thought....
Hmmm See I disagree, I am not a mom yet though, but my thought is the baby is 5 months old and asleep.
IF
I had an extra set of keys so the car was locked up while I was away, no big deal it's only 5 minutes right, windows tinted noone can see in...But then again if someone was evil and took my baby I would never forgive myself!
here in my city ..it is illegal to leave any child under 12 alone in a vehicle when running or turned off for any length of time. You can be arrested and charged on the spot for child endangerment.
That woman is a complete idiot..and especially with the car running...
the truly annoying thing is if some crazy person came along and jacked that car....she would be the first person screaming police and wanting to have that guy tossed in jail...when in fact ...it is completely and totally her fault for allowing such an opportunity to even exist....
argggggggggggggggg
Yep... I think that's a major party foul!! Never ever would I leave my baby/child in the car...
I don't know if I believe you today, though.
deb:
No one would be looking to steal the baby per say...but a nice running car? Car theives are everywhere. And your thinking like an honest person. SO what if the door is locked...break the window.....but to be honest, do you really want to chance it with your kid?
Quinn:
Thanks. You and others have pretty much said mostly the same thing. I figured thats the case, but I'm not going to say anything either...you knwo how mom's get if you point out a flaw in them or their kids....
Terri:
I dont believe you when you say you dont leave your kid in the car...Jenn has told me stories about you...
Oh joy you are so full of crap about not wanting to judge...I dont believe you...
You need to go and read what happened to Lotta when she made the mistake of leaving sleeping kids in her car. I bet if this mom knew what happened to her, she would never do that again!
( She is Mom-o-Matic) I have her link on my site. While I can understand why she would want to leave a sleeping baby sleeping, it is simply not worth the chance of something happening. She would NEVER forgive herself! That is definitely a NO NO!
PS: Jenn told me not to believe you either!
THanks queen O Mayhem....yeah its not worth the chance....no matter how remote. I'll check it out if I can find the story....what month?
Jenn's just jealious because of all the stories Nicole has been spreading about her....*grin*
Carm...
don't believe Underwear Girl either!

OOOH. This is tricky for me. Am I like the only one that has ever done this??? Wow. I am feeling a little bit guilty right now. Here is what I do. If my older kids are in there, I lock the door, and run in a place just for second. They know not to unlock the door unless it is me NO MATTER what. If it was hot, I might leave the car running, and the older ones KNOW not to get in the front seat. I am always afraid if they do, they might accidentally put it in gear. ANYWAY! Now that I am going to be judged and noone will ever come back to my blog, I will leave you with that.
I am not saying it is right. I am not sure I would leave a baby alone in the car, but with my daughter being 10(just turned) I totally trust her for a few minutes. And that is my opinion.
BTW - I would NEVER tell my parents that I do that. (Does that mean I know it is wrong? Hmmm)
Thanks queen. I'm gonna check it out.
Terri:
I never believe her. She's shifty. She's changed her name and blog like 3 times now....
Nicole:
10 is a bit different than an infant or a toddler....but not to scare or scold you, a friend of mine told me this story back in her own home town...
Women went in for a minute...and it was either unlocked or he broke the window and stole the car...as he was, she came out and tried to get the kid out of the back...the kid got caught in the seatbelt as he drove away and his head bounced multiple times on the concrete....I'm sure you can guess what happened to the kid then....
If you wouldnt tell your parents....then it might...but dont worry we'll keep your secret for a price...*grin*
I would never do that.
That woman needs to be bitch slapped.
I dont necessarily disargee with that statement nikki.....but you know how mom's get if you criticize their parenting.....
If I could park near the door and I would only be 5-10 minutes I would do this but not with the car running. If my child was dressed warmly I would crack a window, shut off the car, lock and be right back.
I think it is all about where you are.
But it looks like I am in the minority here.
Holy shit, the car is running? No joke, discretely call the police. I stress the 'discrete' part though because it will be hell for her and you're not going to want her to know it was you. But she clearly needs an ass-kick. Wow.
I can understand why she does it ,although I dont think I would do it. In her defense she probably feels like since she is in a church parking lot and people are around that the baby is safe, but you just never know these days.I've knew a lady **cough ali cough** that used to leave her kids in the car and go into the post office .. now that is WRONG.. I've been tempted to do this but DH would KILL me..-Erin
Trish:
I understand what your saying....but yeah, your the minority.
PLain jane mom:
Yeah, but I wont call. Its not worth the hassle if it comes back to bite me in the ass, or worse if it makes the mrs life rough. I mean if she doesnt care that much about her kid, why should I?
Erin:
Ali is a weird bird.....
But like you said, you never know...yeah I'd kill kim just as bad as your DH would kill you....
Yeah, I wouldn't do that. I have heard too many horror stories of cars catching on fire, kids getting kidnapped, etc...I just don't do that. I just think there are so many things OUT of your control...that is ONE thing that you CAN control...so you might as well be safe than sorry right?! I'm w/ ya girly...heehee.
Thanks anna...better safe than sorry is right...
It is illegal in most places for a reason. For the first six months of ALL of my children's lives, their cribs were at the foot of my bed. I admit I might be slightly paranoid. However. My children are the center of my universe. They are my sun and my moon and I simply cannot take chances with their safety.
Sleeping babies can always be put BACK to sleep. Besides. You train your infant to sleep in noise and kerfuffle by exposing them to...noise and kerfuffle.
paranoia is a good thing concerning children.....
