Bad parenting and playground justice

So again, bad parents at McDonald's. But this time with a twist.

So with sarah and daddy time, we went out for lunch at the McDonald's with a playground. In the playground are, there's a birthday party going on. No problem.

Except moms, back me up on this one, there's always a mom or three who think at every party that they brought the kid, her work is done and sits around and does nothing while her child screws up. You all know you've had them at your parties....

This one is no different. HER darling bundle of trouble decided he didnt want anyone coming out the tunnel slide after he comes down, so he holds the walls and blocks it off so no one can get out...and the log jam starts. You all know what happens next, right? Mommy dearest waddles up from her burger and scolds him after he gets up and starts going up again with "now you let the kids through, no stopping, do you understand?" Which is as effective as a wet noodle, as he continues. And every other time(because apparantly she cant be bothered each time) to admonish him the same way.

Except finally, all the other children have had enough. God bless playground justice, because the other children, both at his party and not, decide THEY had enough, and several of them each time, some older, some not, knock his arms down and physically drag him off the slide. Or climb over him and step on him.

It was great. When parents dont want to deal, children sometimes do!

I have done my share of parenting other people's kids at McDonald's and yelling or disciplining them.

So yes, it was more than pleasing to watch the kids handle the problem that the women would not!

Playground justice is cool. One danger of my currently teaching in a prison is that if I went back to a public school I would totally be cheering on playground justice. We teachers are telling juvenile prisoners to stand up and not let someone else take their snacks. It goes something like, "Are you gonna just let him take your snack? What are you, the 7-11?" or after Jameel puts Troy in the hospital, "Troy had it coming; Jameel had better not get his release pushed back!"

Imagine us at McDonald's or an elementary school. "He pushed you on the slide? Don't tell me about it; take care of it. I ain't puttin' you in protective custody!" Ah, playground justice- fun to watch, but I had better snap out of the mentality.

KIds rules! Love it! Having had 8 of the friggin things, I know exactly how bloody awful some can be (including me own)... I hate those McDonald PLaygrounds cos you usually end up with bigger kids terrorising the little ones too... and I always want to just smack em one! NASTY ME.

Yes, kids gotta stand up for themselves. Funny thing is, it was both bigger and smaller kids takingt he iniative on the matter.

Chris H:

Oh no, the bigger kids dont around here for the most part. In fact they like playing with the little ones.

But if one gets out of line, I have no problem yelling at them....

Atilla:

Your glad those days are over? What, you like the more modern older days of butt checks?

These moms drive me absolutely bananas! I secretly love to see unsupervised bullies "get theirs" on the playground...not to any kind of injury extreme...just enough to get their attention. Also, I do not hesitate to say something to them.....that is my calling...being a teacher explains the need to correct other peoples' children! :)

AND YES! I am speaking to both you AND Mr. Mayhem again....but WATCH IT MISTER! You are on thin ice! (hee-hee)

PS: You are Mr. Mayhem's favorite commenter...as you always take his side!

I correct kids anyway. If parents dont like it, parent your freaking kid and I wont have to!

I knew you couldnt not speak to me.....I'm always on thin ice, so ha!

Hey someone has to take his side, its your blog after all! Everyone is going to take yours automatically!

I have seen this at play grounds and since my daughter is too young to deal with bullies I have to just distract her and take her away.

This is my first visit to your blog. So far I've managed to read a couple of posts and I liked what I read. Will catch up on some of your ther posts soon.
Ok to blogroll you?

No Queen, they take your side because your such a control freak and would hit them with a rolled up newspaper when they get out of line....:D

nainaashely:

Generally I play bigger thug and admonish which ever kid is out of line. I have no problems climbing up on the playground and playing enforcer. If you check out earlier logs...you'll see I had to climb up one time and scold a boy who wouldnt let her down the slide from the top....

feel free to add me. I have to get off my lazy butt and add and rework mine roll....
